Giving up Youtube & Getting Back Into Youtube

Early last year I dipped my toe in to the world of YouTube. I have always been a viewer but never a creator. I got myself a good camera and off I went into my YouTube journey, or so I thought.

The thing was I knew I loved watching vlogs and “main channel” videos so I thought to start off I will start my YouTube channel by vlogging. Well after a few vlogs I realised that vlogging was not for me, I hated it! I then turned to sit down videos and did videos like shopping hauls, monthly faves and whats in my bag. Turns out I hated doing them too. So I put my last video up and never picked the camera up to film ever again.

After sitting down and really thinking about it, I never watch things like that on YouTube don’t get me wrong I LOVE clothes, makeup and skin care but it’s not something I enjoy watching. So why would I enjoy filming it? It finally all made sense to me after I thought about what I love, what my passions are and what I would like to talk about and that is real life things, being, mental health, weight, sex, periods, bodies, people – that is my passion. Talking about things that matter and that people can relate too! I am quite a sarcastic, dry, sweary person and the prim and proper videos that I was doing just didn’t suit me. Its time to be a little bit more me.

The world of YouTube can be daunting and scary and its hard to know what you want your content to be and also having the confidence to do so! I think I have the confidence to do that, I mean I would have those conversations in real life with friends or even random people so why is Youtube any different? If you fail, try and try again till you get it right.

I have passions and I love working towards breaking stigmas and speaking about taboo subjects, I also love to help anyone going through a time of need. If anything I talk about helps even one person in anyway then my job is done!

My channel will be open, airy and honest. With different topics every week! Hopefully everyone can support and enjoy me new content that’s coming soon!!

Helping Improve My Sleep with S+ By ResMed – Review

I was so excited to give the S+ by ResMed a go, I have a terrible sleeping pattern. I find falling asleep of a night very difficult and as a result of that I find it quite hard to wake up. So, when they ResMed team got in touch, I thought, yes this is the answer to all my problems!

res med 2

S+ is the worlds first contactless sleep tracker, this comes with a downloadable app which is called ResMed, you have to connect your phone with the S+ device and it will collate all the information which is very clever and it has a tonne of cool features which are:

Identifying Sleep Issues:

This will give you personalised feed back which in time will allow you to resolve sleeping issues.

Relaxing:

The S+ has a feature where you can play soothing sounds to help you drift off to sleep. The sound gradually synchronizes with your breathing to make falling asleep even more relaxing.

Getting The Room Right:

The device tells you how bright your room is, what the noise levels are like and the temperature of your room, which as I have learnt are 3 very important factors in order to gain a great night sleep.

Clear your mind:

On the app you will find a notes section, where you can write down things that are in your brain, clogging it up and affecting your sleep. You can also write a to do list so your brain is a bit more organised and you know what the next day brings so it makes falling to sleep easier.

Understanding Sleep:

The S+ tells detects your sleep from the minute you fall asleep to the minute you wake up, it helps you to understand what is influencing your sleep patterns and suggests things you can do in order to improve your sleep.

Waking You Gently:

You can choose a time frame to be woken up. The S+ will wake you up in your lightest phase of sleep. So that you wake up nice and refreshed, which I have to say does actually work!

resmed 3

When you wake up and check the app and see how your sleep was, the first thing you will probably see is a graph which is made up of everything that the S+ monitors you for: deep sleep, light sleep, REM (rapid eye movement) and wake. You will also get told your total sleep score, how many disruptions you had throughout the night, it will tell you how long everything lasted for (see photo) and what your total sleep time was. It will also give you advice on how to improve your sleep.

resmed 4

I would 100% recommend the S+ By ResMed to anyone, especially people who suffer with any sleep related problems, it gives you such a good idea as to what is going on whilst you are asleep. Every night I feel like it’s a competition that I need to have a better score than the night before haha, nothing like a bit of healthy competition with yourself!

If you are interested in buying this, you can buy it here or in John Lewis or Amazon.

Why Should We Be Ashamed?

For whatever reason this topic has been circling around in my head for quite sometime. It is also a topic that is controversial. This topic is anti-depressants.

I have been on anti depressants for about 4-5 years, when the time came for me to get my butt to the doctor and finally face the truth that I was not ok, anti-depressants were offered to me. At the time I suffering with severe anxiety & panic, agoraphobia and depression. I was someone who had never really experienced any mental health issues in my life nor did I know anyone who had suffered. Safe to say I felt extremely lonely and lower than low.

When offered the meds I was sceptical, as you would be but at the same time I was DESPERATE to be me again. I felt like the person I once was had died, was she ever going to come back? Who knew?

I took the medication, my doctor prescribed me 100mg of Sertraline. When I first took this I was so ill, the side effects were like nothing I had ever experienced. But once the side effects passed I slowly but surely felt like me again, I was able to go out and enjoy life the way I did before. I cannot describe how nice it felt to feel like I had a personality again, no longer was I a shell of a human.

As time went on I learnt that my doctor gave me a prescription that was WAY too strong and left me with the challenge to reduce my medication bit by bit the better I felt. Instead of starting me on 10mg and letting me go up if I felt worse he stuck me on a very high dosage with hard hopes of ever reducing. I have also learnt that my medication has a lot of side effects that I deal with on a daily basis.

It’s hard as it is, I admit I don’t want to be on medication for the rest of my life and I don’t want to have to deal with the daily side effects like weight gain & not being able to loose weight till I’m off the meds, allergic reactions, sleep issues and more. The issue I face here is are the effects of my meds that I suffer with everyday worse than feeling in the worst place possible mentally? No, if you put it on paper, they are not. Yes of course my weight gets me down but nowhere near as down as I have felt in the past.

I have gone through the past 4-5 years of people being cool about me taking medication and other people giving me opinions that I don’t need. Slating the meds, saying how I can do this with out the meds, medication is for the weak, medication is covering the issue, Christ the list is endless. Just becuase someone doesnt agree or has a certain narrow minded opinion on medication that should not make you feel ashamed or emabressed.

My thoughts are if you have not suffered with mental health in any way shape or form, if you are not inside my body and you can’t feel what I feel and if you do not understand mental health then your opinion is IRRELEVANT!!

In actual fact me taking that medication 4 1/2 years ago was the best thing I could have ever done. It pulled me out of a dark hole and put me back on track. Medication is there for a reason. People will literally have an opinion on everything they want even when they really don’t have a clue what they are talking about.

If you had to take medication for a physical health symptom, would you bash someone for that choice, no you wouldn’t as they need that medication to make them well again.

I plan on reducing my medication every time I feel great, so every few months I will reduce and keep going till I feel mentally well enough to live life without them, but if I feel like I’m going back down hill and I can’t pull myself out of it I will put my medication back up and I see NO shame in that whatsoever. Everyone needs a little help sometimes.

Don’t get me wrong I am aware that sometimes medication doesn’t work for everyone. No one is the same, what works for one person may not necessarily work for another.

I want to help try to break the stupid stigma around medication for your mental health. If you need help, so what? Why should anyone be made to feel ashamed for taking medication? The fact that people hide it from their friends & loved ones because they are ashamed or peoples comments have made them feel embaressed makes me feel so sad!

I write this because I am passionate about it and also I’m very open and honest about mental health. If someone doesnt understand mental health or medication, try educating them! Its probably the best thing to do.

Thanks for reading, please let me know if you can relate to this!

Sukin Super Greens Range

I’m always on the look out for new skin care as I still feel like I haven’t found skincare that fully suits my skin. Well now I think I have. I have very sensitive skin, a lot of products I have are just too harsh for my skin to cope with. Not Sukin though, I feel like it is perfectly suited for my skin. I will explain below why I love these products so much.

sukin-11.jpg

Sukin Background

Sukin launched in 2007, by a Melbourne based family on a mission to create a high quality, affordable and effective natural hair and skin care. Their tagline is “Skin care that doesn’t cost the earth”. They are certified as 100% Carbon Neutral, Cruelty Free and Vegan. They have over 60 products out now. Detoxifying Clay Masque

sukin-2.jpg

  • Paraben Free
  • Clay based masque infused with Kale, Spirulina & Parsley to promote a clean, healthy and glowing complexion.
  • Detoxifying and packed with antioxidants and vitamins
  • Promotes youthful and healthy skin
  • Also lots of great natural ingredients.

I really love the masque, usually when I put a mask on my face I have to remove it within few minutes as it starts to burn/irritate my skin. It’s safe to say that this masque did not do this. It felt really comfortable and nourishing on my skin. This masque also has a really great texture. When I remove the masque my skin feels and looks great. Which is something everyone wants to see from a mask hey! I also had a friend stay round one night and she tried the masque and really loved it. It does everything it says on the packaging  & it suits my sensitive skin perfectly. I use this product once a week.

Detoxifying Facial Scrub

  • Blend of Kale, Spirulina and parsley to promote a healthy glowing complexion
  • Jojoba beads and Bamboo gently exfoliate the skin
  • Micro Jojoba beads and Bamboo offer the skin a gentle polish to remove dirt and impurities.
  • Detoxifying and packed with antioxidants and vitamins.
  • Pineapple, Liquorice and Lime peel promote a clear and radiant complexion
  • Sulphate and Paraben free

The thing I loved about this scrub is that it’s not harsh when rubbing it on your face, you can clearly tell you are exfoliating your skin but it’s very gently and effective. The liquid its self is very soft on your skin and with the beads working their magic, my skin feels amazing after every use. I use the product twice a week and love it. I have noticed a difference in my skin since using this product. The products also have a non-overpowering cranberry scent, which is lovely.

I will 100% be re-purchasing my products when they run out as well as some other products by Sukin! I couldn’t recommend this skin care brand enough!
